We are six months into the new Hospital Pricing Transparency law that went into effect as of January 1st, 2021. How are things going so far? Are Hospitals complying, is it working, are the more changes coming?
We think NPR did a great job on their article “Hospitals Have Started Posting Their Prices Online. Here’s What They Reveal” which you can Read here. What we are seeing is basically the same as they discuss in their article. Prices are all over the board. Many hospitals are not compliant with the new transparency laws, and some are partly compliant, but there is a long way to go before we can say it is a success.
Prices listed on the hospitals websites are all over the board, which is why is it so important to have access to this information. It is definitely a shift from how things were done in the past, it is allowing people to become educated consumers of their own medical care.
If you want to try it, you can google the hospital name and pricing transparency or go to your local hospitals website and see if they are in compliance with the website.
